For this project, I was asked to create four children's colouring page designs for Newcastle Cathedral (Cathedral Church of St Nicholas), inspired by the creatures visible in the woodcarvings around the cathedral. The original woodcarvings were by the artist Ralph Hedley, whose style was a big inspiration for this project.
Each colouring page has instructions and cut-outlines on the back of the paper so that the drawings can be turned into crowns for children to wear. All of the characters are also wear crowns, which were inspired by the spire of the cathedral in design.

The Griffin.
The Angel.
The Dragon.
The Owl.
Out of all the carvings, I chose to illustrate an angel, dragon, gryphon and owl for these designs. My goal was to keep as much original detail from the carvings as possible, while also applying my own style to the characters so that they appeared more child-friendly.
